Par-tay!
Sunday was Jeremiah's 30th birthday. Whenever I ask him what he wants for his birthday he can never give me a straight answer. He says things like, "I don't need anything," or, "Um, I guess I could use another tie," and "How about a pencil?" He also doesn't like to be the center of attention. So for his 30th I had no choice but to throw a surprise party!
I decided to invite family and friends and just have a lot of food. Kate and her family came to visit for the weekend to help throw him off the scent. So while Josh and Jeremiah went to the Priesthood session of Conference, Kate and I set to making artichoke dip, a fruit tray, setting out chips and salsa, Chex mix, Twix, Kit Kats, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Dr. Pepper, 7-UP, and sparkling cider....all of which are Jeremiah's favorites. We also had a chocolate birthday cake complete with Batman and Joker on top, requested by the birthday boy himself.
When Jeremiah walked in the front door he was greeted by about 30 friends and family yelling "SURPRISE!" I think he was genuinely surprised. We then just ate and talked and had a good time. I gave Jeremiah a hat, a battery charger with batteries (to end the continual battle with the remote controls), and a book that had been autographed by the author. He also received some superhero T-shirts as "gag gifts," an electronic version of Trivial Pursuit, Madagascar 2 along with 3 Pez dispensers, and a book printed in 1854...which I think was more of a surprise than the party itself.

After most of the food had been devoured a lot of the guests decided to get going, Jeremiah's family had spent a lot of the day helping his grandparents move to an assisted living apartment and were (understandably) very tired. Those who stayed behind played Truth or Dare and we stayed up until 2 AM laughing and talking and revealing our true selves. I don't know about everyone else, but I had a blast.
Oh, and Jeremiah said he liked it, too. :^)
Happy Birthday, Jeremiah! I love you!
