On No, I've Lost It

This morning I read on a friend's blog that her son wants a poop cake for his birthday.

I left the following comment:

I've heard of diaper cakes, but a poop cake? You should also serve cow pies and buffalo chips. (Is anyone else laughing, because I'm starting to tear up!)

Seriously though, I can't stop laughing. My laughter is so intense that it has turned into a wheeze with a few blips of audible laughter. I don't know why it struck me as being so hilarious but I will be calling on this thought all day to keep myself in high spirits.

Mommy's Asleep, Let's Get the Camera!

Last Tuesday I was so tired. I woke up and got Isaac off to school and then laid back down because I just couldn't keep my eyes open. Kenley and Jack woke up so I had to get them taken care of and then I laid down on the couch. The kids entertained themselves until Isaac got home from school and I got up just long enough to feed them lunch. Then I put Jack down for a nap and told the other kids it was quiet time. I hit the bed again and didn't get up until 4:00. By the time I got out of bed the kids had already let Jack out of his crib. I was thankful that they had let me sleep. Later that day I told Jeremiah about how it had felt like the day of the living dead for me. He asked, "What did the kids do?" Since I had only been semi-conscious all day the only answer I could give was, "I don't know."

Then somewhere between Tuesday and yesterday I realized I didn't know where our camera was. I asked Jeremiah if he knew its whereabouts and Isaac gave a quick reference to when he and Kenley, "took a few pictures." We finally located the camera and I found that "a few pictures" turned out to be 106 pictures! Most of them were of things like the carpet, wall, TV, and toys with blurs of kids running through the shot. I'll be deleting most of them, but here are a few that made me laugh.

Obviously pretending the sleep. And, honestly, who doesn't want a picture of their brother's bum?

I suppose it is a good sign that at least they were having fun!
I love the I'm-trying-so-hard-to-look-sad face.

Back Online

Yay for people who know what the heck they're doing on computers! Bye-bye you stupid virus.

Anyway, here are a few mental notes I've made over the past few weeks in hopes of posting once our computer got repaired.

While going through Isaac's backpack I found a paper with the instructions "Write the numbers 1-20 in the rectangles." I looked at each of Isaac's numbers and noticed a small, scribbly circle after each number. As he got into the double digits the scribble was between the two. "Are you trying to write a decimal?" I asked him. A grin slowly spread across his face and he sighed exasperatedly as he answered, "Mom. You don't get it. The numbers are farting!" Really...I should have known...

I made some frozen pizza of the "cheap" variety for lunch. One of them was ambiguously labeled "Mexican." Isaac was hesitant to try it because he could see onions and green pepper on the top. After a few bites he ran to get himself a drink and when he returned he declared, "Those Mexicans sure do like spice!"

Kenley has decided that the baby will be a girl and that we should name her Kenley. We've had several discussions about the confusion that would undoubtedly cause. (I have to add here that Kenley has, unfortunately, inherited my stubbornness.) She maintains that we need two Kenleys and that we'll easily tell them apart because one of them will be a baby. No matter how many times the issue arises Kenley will not budge. At least we have a few months to work on it.

I have an ultrasound on May 19 and Jeremiah and I are constantly wavering over the decision of whether or not we want to learn the gender. (Am I the only one who says gender? I just get sick of people asking "Do you know the sex?" I really want to answer, "Do I! That's how we got the baby!" Also, I don't want my children picking up on the word "sex.") Anyway, right now my vote is to wait until delivery but we may not truly decide until we are right there at the ultrasound.

My kids seem to have inherited my "charmed life." Yesterday they emptied the candy bowl of all the real candy leaving behind only candy canes that we have probably been collecting since our first Christmas together. Some friends of ours invited us to a "Siete de Mayo" party (since both wives had to be at mutual on Cinco de Mayo.) Although ours were the only children present, they had a pinata. So each of my kids came home with a large bag of candy and now our candy bowl overfloweth.

I mowed the front lawn today and started on the back lawn. The weather has not been too cooperative as far as good days for lawn care and so this was the first time this season I have dared to take on the uneven backyard with the GPLM (Gwen-Propelled Lawn Mower.) Even at the tallest setting the grass was too tall and thick for me to easily push the lawn mower. I decided that the effort on my part alone would guilt Jeremiah into finishing the rest. Throw in the fact that I'm pregnant and I should be setting myself up for a great Mother's Day gift!

Par-tay!

Sunday was Jeremiah's 30th birthday. Whenever I ask him what he wants for his birthday he can never give me a straight answer. He says things like, "I don't need anything," or, "Um, I guess I could use another tie," and "How about a pencil?" He also doesn't like to be the center of attention. So for his 30th I had no choice but to throw a surprise party!

I decided to invite family and friends and just have a lot of food. Kate and her family came to visit for the weekend to help throw him off the scent. So while Josh and Jeremiah went to the Priesthood session of Conference, Kate and I set to making artichoke dip, a fruit tray, setting out chips and salsa, Chex mix, Twix, Kit Kats, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Dr. Pepper, 7-UP, and sparkling cider....all of which are Jeremiah's favorites. We also had a chocolate birthday cake complete with Batman and Joker on top, requested by the birthday boy himself.

When Jeremiah walked in the front door he was greeted by about 30 friends and family yelling "SURPRISE!" I think he was genuinely surprised. We then just ate and talked and had a good time. I gave Jeremiah a hat, a battery charger with batteries (to end the continual battle with the remote controls), and a book that had been autographed by the author. He also received some superhero T-shirts as "gag gifts," an electronic version of Trivial Pursuit, Madagascar 2 along with 3 Pez dispensers, and a book printed in 1854...which I think was more of a surprise than the party itself.

After most of the food had been devoured a lot of the guests decided to get going, Jeremiah's family had spent a lot of the day helping his grandparents move to an assisted living apartment and were (understandably) very tired. Those who stayed behind played Truth or Dare and we stayed up until 2 AM laughing and talking and revealing our true selves. I don't know about everyone else, but I had a blast.

Oh, and Jeremiah said he liked it, too. :^)

Happy Birthday, Jeremiah! I love you!

To End the Suspense

The shed would have been helpful, but really if we got rid of all the crap we're just "storing" we'd have more than enough room for the things we actually use.

The Wii was heavily considered but, in the end, would probably have cost more than any other of our options after buying all the accessories we'd want for family fun. I'm not giving up the idea though...maybe for Christmas?

We had our wall painted.

Jeremiah and I discussed all three options and I ultimately made the decision to have the wall painted. I've had a paint chip taped to my wall for almost a year and although I admired the 2"x3" splash of color, it was time to have it cover the entire wall. We'd have done it ourselves, but it's a 14'x30' wall and that's a lot of ladder time, people! The painter came in and did all the prep work, painted 2 coats and the cleanup in less than 6 hours. If we'd attempted it ourselves I'm guessing we'd still be climbing ladders to hang tape. I'm really happy with the result and the fact that it is finally done. Bye-bye, paint chip!

And it was the least expensive of the 3, so I feel pretty thrifty.
